One of the best ways to experience Australian culture is to live with an Australian homestay family or share house.

Generally homestay accommodation is between $150~220 per week with most companies charging a $150 application fee. This usually includes breakfast and dinner during the weekdays and breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekends.

Share house accommodation varies from city to city with Sydney being the most expensive city in Australia. To rent a room in a share house can range from $75 per week in Brisbane, up to a maximum of $250 per week in Sydney.

The cost of the homestay generally provides for 2 meals per day although some homestay organisations provide 3 meals per day.

Rooms may be single or in some circumstances may be shared. All rooms will have a desk and lamp for studying as well as a bed and a place to store your clothing.

Australia has a wide variety of Hotels and Motels for international students to choose from. These can vary from very basic accommodation to the elegant accommodation of a 5 Star Hotel.

Hotels and Motels are a little more expensive than homestay or on-campus accommodation but provide the international student with daily cleaning services and in many cases swimming pools and gym equipment.

For students wishing to study for short periods hotel and motel accommodation may be the best option to choose.

One of the common forms of accommodation for University and College students is On-Campus accommodation.

Universities and Colleges provide all facilities and services you will need, including all meals, sporting facilities, tutoring and cleaning facilities.

On-Campus accommodation provides international students with a stable study environment as well being an excellent method in which to meet other international students.

Australia also has a wide variety of backpacker, motel, hotel and holiday unit accommodation to choose from, as well as excellent camping and caravan facilities. However the most popular method for Working Holiday makers is share accommodation.

Share accommodation can vary greatly in price and quality in the various cities throughout Australia.

The most expensive city to rent accommodation is Sydney.

For a room in a share house in Sydney you must budget between $150~250 per week, while in Brisbane the average is around $75~120 per week.

In addition to this you must budget for telephone, electricity and gas charges.

An average weekly amount of $50 per week should be suitable.

Most share houses will require a security deposit of no more than one months rental and please, do not forget to receive a receipt for all payments.

To find suitable share accommodation the best places to look are the major Saturday newspapers, University information bulletin boards, English colleges and backpacker hostels.
